What is #10Questions
"Let's do it!"
Yeah!! 😃Q1: Here’s the first question we ask everyone: What inspired you to run for office? #COTD #BWCS #NY11 #FridayFeeling
"I’m running because when I looked at DC, I saw a Congress that didn’t measure up to the sacrifices the men and women I served with made every day. DC does nothing except ignore our problems and rip us off. Sitting on the sidelines was no longer an option."
Q2: #NY11 is one of the @DCCC's "Red to Blue" districts, and recently shifted from Likely to Lean Republican. As you talk with your community, do you get a sense of what factors are causing this change? #BWCS #NY11 #10Questions
"The pundits are late to the party! NY11 has always been competitive. The problem is Staten Islanders and South Brooklynites don’t trust any politicians. It’s why I’m refusing Corporate PAC money. If we are going to change our politics then we need to do things differently."
Q3: Climate change is reshaping the Staten Island coastline. A 2015 report by the New York City Panel on Climate Change found that both the North and South Shore would be seriously impacted. What will you do to protect the area from rising sea levels? #10Questions #NY11
"It’s not a matter of if, it's when we get hit again. NYC was not ready for Superstorm Sandy and lives were lost. Not only that, the recovery effort was a second catastrophe. The state is leading the way with some great projects to protect our shoreline, but that’s not enough. We need more federal $$ for resiliency efforts locally, but we need to truly combat climate change. That means signing the Paris Agreement, pursuing an Apollo-like effort for battery technology, and protecting the EPA from political interference – and that's just to start. Finally, the government has a responsibility to ensure those in flood zones are not left in economic ruin due to unsustainable insurance premiums. If GOP & Dems are serious about protecting the middle and working class, we can’t leave folks to fend for themselves."
Q4: You’ve called for a change to federal Department Of Transportation funding restrictions to help alleviate some of the NY11’s legendary traffic issues. What improvements do you envision and how will your plan can be funded and implemented? #BWCS #NY11 #10Questions
"We should all be done with hearing 'there’s no money' from Republicans. They just blew a $1.5 trillion hole in the deficit to give special interests and the corporations money they don't need. So the funding is there ESPECIALLY since this is an investment in our economy. Let’s give American workers a chance to build their future as they rebuild our infrastructure and make it once again the envy of the world. Q5: Two Staten Island high schools had gun threats at the end of Feb. One threat resulted in a school lockdown. Today is #NationalSchoolWalkout to mark the anniversary of Columbine. What will you do to stop gun violence in our schools and communities? #10Questions
"The NRA has a stranglehold on Congress. We need money out of politics and we need elected officials with the courage to lead. The NRA isn’t just gonna give me an F rating – they’re going to give me an F-You rating. No student should have to worry about being gunned down while walking to class. I have a five point, common-sense plan to end this epidemic of violence not only in our schools, but in our cities as well. You can read about it here: https://www.kingscountypolitics.com/max-roses-five-point-plan-reducing-gun-violence/ "
Q6: Healthcare is on everyone’s mind – and as a vet and former non-profit healthcare executive, your passion for the issue is both personal and professional. What are the first 3 steps crucial to providing health care people can afford? #BWCS #NY11 #10Questions
"This is easy:
✔️Enact all payer rate setting nationwide (like in Maryland)
✔️Value-based care so hospitals are paid based on the treatment of the patient, not how many surgeries are performed.
We’ll get waste and perverse incentives out of the system and healthier patients at the same time. You can read more here: https://www.maxroseforcongress.com/index.php/campaign-issue/test-three/ "
Q7: Your community, like many others, is fighting opioid abuse – and has made some progress: 2017 saw a 15% decrease in overdose deaths from 2016. What initiatives do you think are helping and what more needs to be done? #BWCS #10Questions #NY11
"This is something I've worked on as chief of staff at Brightpoint Health. We helped bring the first 24/7 drug recovery center in the state to Staten Island. But that's not enough. We need more federal $$ to expand inpatient & outpatient treatment, bring innovative law enforcement initiatives @StatenIslandDA has pioneered nationwide, repeal any restrictions the DEA has on going after companies who deceived the American people and so much more."
Q8: #NY11 has a long history of colorful characters, from Sulzer to Brasco to Michael Grimm, a felon who resigned in disgrace in 2015. Grimm is running to primary the incumbent, Donovan. Do you get the sense from meeting folks in #NY11 that they are just fed up with BS?
"They are rightfully fed up with all politicians. We've spoken about a lot different issue priorities and tackling big problems today. Without trust though, nothing is going to get done. We need to restore faith and trust in our leaders – and the work starts now."
Okay! Last two questions!
Q9: What is one issue we haven’t covered today that is an important one affecting your district, and
Q10: Where can people learn more about your campaign and how to support it? #BWCS #NY11 #10Questions
"Protecting workers rights and our pensions. Local 3 has been on strike for over a year as Spectrum tries to break them. It’s unacceptable. This was a blast! For those who want to stay in touch – sign up at https://www.maxroseforcongress.com/ "
