What is #10Questions

#10Questions is a Twitter interview between one of our candidates and our founder, Holly Figueroa O'Reilly. Follow along with us on our BWCS Twitter.

🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊 I’m so excited for this interview, y’all! #10Questions begins NOW with @BlueWaveCS candidate @TJCoxCongress in #CA21.

Thanks for joining us today, TJ! Are you ready to answer #10Q?

"Thank you Holly! I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to Twitter speak with you today."

Q1: We’ll begin with the most important question: what inspired you to run for office? #10Q #CA21

"More than anything else, the sense of social justice that was instilled in me by my parents. Everyday in my business, I'd see the economic and social inequities here in the Central Valley. I know I can bring leadership, experience, and initiative to make a positive difference."

Q2: Democrats have struggled to be competitive in the Central Valley, yet you were recently added to the “Red to Blue” program by the @dccc. Why are you the candidate who can flip the district? #10Q #CA21

"This is a race we absolutely know we can win. @RepDavidValadao voted to take away healthcare from 100,000 Central Valley residents. Meanwhile, I've building health clinics. Valadao stands by and watches ICE terrorize our communities and devastate our businesses. As the son of immigrants, I respect anyone who works hard to improve the lives of their families. Valadao puts politics over people. I'll put my constituents first."

Q3: Rep. Valadao has been in lockstep with Trump as policies target the civic and human rights of Dreamers, LBGTQ citizens, women, and minorities. How is that received by the families in #CA21 and where do you stand? #10Q

"Not well. @RepDavidValadao has trouble remembering that he serves his people, not the President. Article 1 of the Constitution makes the Congress the penultimate branch of Congress. I will always stand with all of our District's people."

Q4: You founded the Central Valley NMTC Fund, investing in community healthcare, education, and housing resources while creating 100s of jobs. What do you see as critical next steps to improving economic opportunity in #CA21? #10Q

"We made a summary video for our day being featured by @BlueWaveCS. It's a great quick explanation of the #CA21 race, check it out!

If this Congressman thing doesn't work out, do you think I can make it as a TV broadcaster? 🤔

Valadao and the GOP believe in 'trickle down' economics. I believe in investing in people. After we flip the House, we will invest in education, infrastructure and healthcare – these are the building blocks for economic growth and our long-term success."

Q5: Aside from being a business entrepreneur, you’re a scientist and engineer. How does your STEM background make you a better representative and advocate for your constituents? #10Q #CA21

"As an engineer, I build and fix things... and Congress is definitely broken. In one of the most medically underserved and environmentally abused regions of countries, we have a great opportunity to invest in healthcare and clean-energy technology. My goal is to create long-term career track jobs in Cali's Central Valley."

Q6: Through your many projects, you’ve encouraged innovative work in agriculture, renewable energy, and environmental protection.  What is your biggest environmental concern and how will you work to resolve it? #10Q

"Clean air and clean water. The Central Valley has the dirtiest air in the nation. Many of our poor farmworker communities don’t have access to clean, fresh drinking water. We can do better. My business has been working on climate issues for the last 8 years. I will continue to work on them, whether or not I win this election."

Q7: Healthcare is a focal point of your campaign, contrasting Rep. Valadao’s vote, lockstep with Trump, to repeal the ACA and end care for more than 50% of your constituents. How do you propose to create affordable, quality healthcare in the Central Valley? #10Q #CA21

"We can start with a Medicaid public buy-in option. Here in the Valley, there’s no greater reflection or driver of inequality than in healthcare. In Congress, I will continue to develop and invest in community clinics, health professional training, and increased access."

Q8: According to the most recent census, #CA21 had one of the lowest average family incomes in California. How does income in a district relate to representation and your decision to refuse special interest and corporate PAC contributions to your campaign? #10Q

"My opponent’s campaign depends on unlimited corporate PAC money. No surprise, he recently received maximum contributions from the Koch brothers. Here's an example of the kind of disingenuous messaging we'll be up against: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qnnaNv2TIw But that money can’t vote, only people can. With our ground game and support from grassroots supporters, we know we can win."

Q9: What do you look for in an almond? Is it like diamonds – color, cut, clarity? Why are your almonds better than other almonds, like say, @DiamondNuts? Speaking of almonds, what are your views on marzipan?

Q9: The #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have brought sexual assault and violence front and center in the past few months. What will you do when you are in Congress to combat sexual harassment in the workplace and elsewhere? #CA21

"Hah! Oh you know I could tweet @ you about almonds all day... Maybe we save that for another time. :) Let's just leave it at this for now: the Central Valley grows the most delicious almonds in the world.

We need leaders in Washington who are championing women’s rights. @Realdonaldtrump is not one. We need to put a stop to it. No more excuses. Zero tolerance. I know how damaging it can be to women to have to face that kind of treatment. We can’t stand for it. Unfortunately, we’re not getting the leadership needed from President Trump. There's no place in Congress for harassment, sexual or otherwise. I will be a strong voice for woman, LGBTQ, minorities, and other groups rising up."

Thank you so much for making this GREAT video for @BlueWaveCS! It's been a real honor talking with you.

Q10: What is one issue we haven’t covered today that is an important one affecting your district, and where can people learn more about your campaign?

"Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Paul Ryan was in our district today. After passing the trillion and a half dollar #taxscam, Ryan and Valadao are now decrying 'deficit spending.' Guess how they're planning to 'Balance the budget?' That's right: they're vowing to slash our social safety nets to pay for their giveaway to corporations and billionaires.

I'm confident that the people of the Central Valley won't stand for it come November.

Thank you and all of @BlueWaveCS for having me on today! Grassroots organizations like yours are putting a strong wind at our back. Together, we can #FlipTheHouse."

Yes! We're working hard to make sure that we flip the U.S. House, Senate and as many state seats as possible! 💪🏽

Thanks again, @TJCoxCongress, for answering our 10...er...11 questions! #CA21 #10Q
